In this article we set two goals. The first is to verify the Prator’s Hierarchy of Difficulty hypothesis for the development of proficiency testing of Chinese grammar, and the second is the relationship between Prator’s Hierarchy of Difficulty hypothesis and L1 as well as L2.
According to our analysis, verification of the Prator’s Hierarchy of Difficulty hypothesis, for L2 Chinese learners whose L1 is Korean, is the level 0 and 1 and 2 and 3 of the Prator’s level of difficulty remain the same, furthermore, level 4 and 5 mutual exchange. In other words, While learning Chinese language, Prator’s level 5 which is a kind of language phenomenon that one factor of L1 can be divided into more ones in second language, is more difficult than Prator’s level 4 which is also a language phenomenon that an element not in L1 is present in L2, which is a step in the process of over-discrimination or over-difference.
We will then take a revised ‘L2 Chinese Grammar Proficiency test for L1 Korean’ based on the analysis results and conduct another survey.
