This thesis is presented in partial fulfillment for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. The aim of the study in this thesis was to conduct an analysis of form of exhibition display in the present modern society, especially of the active communication with visitors in the ceramic art exhibition.
This thesis considers more effective method of ceramic exhibition’s display focusing on ‘ceramic exhibition’ including historical course and evolution of ceramic exhibition. My proposal for the display is the display in consilience. Display in consilience or consilience display is to create a different kind output on the basis of mixing different kinds of input. For example, it is placing a ceramic work in a real life-style day-to-day designed space to let the attendance easily understand the purpose of the exhibition. That is to lead or induce the attendance to communicate with the space design including the ceramic works and the space surrounding the works.
Consilience display is to create a designed space blending a work, direction, and space in harmony.
Consilience display includes both convergent and consolidated. It is characterized by its infinate expansion and modification and would create more various and expanded types of exhibition. The attendances would apply what is in the exhbition in their real life after they attend the exhibition. It is the reason for the author of this thesis to suggest the Consilence display. I hope that this thesis will be helpful to researchers studying exhibition directing.

이 논문은 박사학위 청구논문을 집필하기 위한 일부 논고를 수정, 보완하고 요약한 논문임을 밝혀 둔다.
본 논문은 현대 전시를 기획하고 진행함에 있어서 현 사회가 원하는 새로운 전시 연출형태에 대하여 연구한다. 그리고 도자공예 전시를 중심으로 적극적 소통을 위한 전시연출 방안과 가능성을 찾는다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 기존의 나열식 전시연출 이외에 관람자와의 적극적인 소통을 위한 방법을 제시하는데 있다.
본 연구는 ‘도자전시(陶瓷展示)’에 초점을 두고 도자의 전시가 어떻게 변화해 왔고 현재 어떠한 흐름 속에 있는지 파악하여 보다 효과적인 전시 연출방법에 대하여 고찰한다. 필자가 제안하는 전시 연출방법은 통섭전시 연출이다. 통섭전시 연출이란, 여러 장르와 분야가 합쳐져서 새로운 확장된 영역의 결과물을 만들어내는 전시이다. 예를 들어 관람자가 이해하기 쉽도록 전시장을 일상의 공간을 연상하도록 디자인하고 그 공간에 작품이 어울리도록 배치하여 관람자가 적극적으로 작품과 소통할 수 있도록 연출하는 등의 기법들을 말한다. 즉 각각의 작품을 보고 이해하는데서 그치는 것이 아니라, 여러 작품과 연출 요소들이 이루는 전체 공간이 만들어내는 제3의 결과물을 보고 소통할 수 있도록 유도하는 것이다.
통섭 전시는 한 공간 안에서의 작품 통합을 넘어 공간전체가 제3의 새로운 작품이 되는 것을 보여주고, 더 나아가 관람자가 전시에 몰입하면서 실생활에 응용할 수 있는 길을 열어준다. 이것이 진정한 소통이라고 필자는 생각한다. 이 논문이 전시연출과 관련해서 보다 다양하고 깊이 있는 논문이 연구되길 바라며, 전시와 관람객의 적극적 소통을 위해 고민하는 연구자들에게 도움이 됐으면 한다.
