Tidal wave was intensively happened in southwest seashore. Storm surge was happened by typhoon and wind and waves high tide. Tidal wave mainly occurred in Rainy season(June∼September). Tidal wave’s number of occurrences was small in the eastern coast of Korea but most of them was tsunami. Thus the number of occurrences have to be focused.
The reason of tidal wave was not figured out, and in case of storm surge there were main reasons(rainy season, typhoon, wind and waves) in the historic materials but tidal wave was not always accompanied. Thus, people understood that Tide wave was natural calamity occurred by Heavenly judgement that cannot understood specific reasons. People reported King and provision for Heavenly judgement and focused victim relief.
As Tidal wave in the Joseon Dynasty took a toll people, Nation had to ready to protect it. The harm was very huge(people were drowned, damage on brine pan, flooding farmland. Specially, people could not farm because flooding farmland made salinity accumulation as a result, there were many starved people. People wander and nation could not collect taxed from people.
Government officials and King discussed about the problem and gave King the advise. Paradoxically they make political capital on the Tidal wave.
Nation surveyed the situation and gave wander people tax exemption depending on the seriousness of the incident. The Joseon suffered the most from Farmland and Nation gave a real-estate tax from the people as investing the area. The period was very long as People could not farm in a flooded area.
Our country were still damaged by tidal wave. Specially the eastern coast of Korea was still in existence of tsunami. Recently Gyeongju and Pohang people worried about the tsunami but the preventive measure is still insufficiency. Thus tidal wave has to be model.
