The objective of this investigation is to find out transitional experiences of primary school 1st graders to primary school by analyzing, and to suggest its relevance, so that we can understand the school life of 1st graders. The subjects who participated in this study were twenty-eight 1st grade primary school children from Seoul and Daejeon. The Q-sort measurement approach was used to measure the children’s subjectivity in-depth. The subjects read 29 statements written on cards that were about the contents of education, environment of education, environment of life, and relationships with friends and teachers. Once they were done reading, they were asked to sort the cards in accordance with their own school experience. The collected data was analyzed using factor analysis with SPSS for Windows 10.0. The result of this study indicated that there are three different types of daily lifestyle of 1st grade students. The three types are: “excited with expectations of school life”, “desiring inclination of friendship”, and “pressured by high expectation of good grades”. The major two points of importance are that the 1st graders’ activities were based on subjectivity, rather than objectivity, and that these observations suggest different ways of approaching kindergarteners’ transitional experience to primary schools. This discovery will give practical ideas to the study on the transitional education field.
