Children's books are often meant to read aloud to children by adults. Reading books to children will have lifelong impact on the child's learning experiences and developmental progress. It is particularly essential for the little children at an early age. Accordingly, the translators of picture books are advised to recognize the value of "speakability" of translations. In this regard, this study aims to analyse the translation methods employed by the Korean translators of children's literature to enhance speakability. In consideration of speakability, sentence types of ST(Source Text) need to be shifted when translating for children. An analysis of translated picture books showed that declarative sentences of ST were often changed into direct quotations or interrogative sentences, particularly, rhetorical questions. Compared with declative sentences, rhetorical questions for persuasion or emphasis have a more dramatic effect and add vividness to a story. Furthermore, the shift of sentence types in translation effectively changes the narrative point of view from third person objective to third person omniscient, which could provide children with more detailed information. Reading aloud to children encourages emotional bond between parents and their children as well as children's linguistic development. To maximize the effect of this activity, the Korean translators tend to shift sentence types of ST when translating for children.
