The purpose of this study is to examine what phonological aspects of the Korean language, through linguistic interference, result in stop-consonants errors in Korean students of the Thai language. This Study used the psycho-analytical program “Open Sesame” to examine the native interference error phenomenon. This study measured the degree of pronunciation proficiency in 2 groups. Group one was composed of 20 Korean Thai language learners and Group two was composed of 22 Thai Korean language learners. Initially, the phonemes and phonological aspects found in Thai and Korean languages were analyzed by the means of a comparative study. Through the comparative analysis it was found that the stop-consonants /b/ and /d/ found in the Thai language exist in Korean language only as inter-voiced voicing. This non existence of the /b/ and /d/ sounds outside of inter-voiced voicing result in mother language interference error (allophon) and a weakness in the ability of the Korean learner of Thai to distinguish the difference between /b/ and /p/ sounds and /d/ and /t/ sounds. The exam results rated the speed and accuracy of learner subjects. Group two scored faster in its average time and higher on average accuracy of two groups. The results of the study show that comparative phonological education is of importance to beginner level learners. The mother language interference effect was shown to cause greater difficulty in the group 1 in perceiving difference between /b/ and /p/ sounds and /d/ and /t/ sounds.
