The icon as one of factor of GUI became the essential means for the efficient visual communication, especially the importance of icon is being increased as the smart phone is being popularized and developed. This icon is the trend changing newly from the Skeuomorphism showing the Concreteness recently to the Minimalism with the abstract and simple type. But its effect as the efficient visual communication has not been verified, the study concerning this is insufficient state as well. Accordingly, it aimed to verify the effect on the Concreteness and the abstractness of icon design in this study. the visual component have been investigated through the literature research. The Skeuomorphism and the Minimalism have been analyzed to recognize the current design trend, the Concreteness and abstractness of Icon have been considered. Thereafter, the icon design has been classified by dividing 4 stages with the expression of ‘realistic–concrete–iconic–abstract’ by the mode of expression. This study considers the design of icon being the issue at present literarily; there is the meaning in the point that the effect on the user has been verified by each mode of expression by dividing into 5 kinds of sides as the information recognition, the preference, the induction of curiosity, the purchasing influence and the easiness of memory.
