Recently field-based environmental education has been emphasized and a lot of ecology experience programs have been developed to foster environmental values. However, there are not many programs concerning the ecology of tidal flats. Even though there are some, most of them are designed to explore ocean invertebrates, which may damage tidal flats because the many activities include stepping into the tidal flats. Therefore, an ecology experience program was developed to minimize damage to tidal flats and to help understand the tidal flat ecosystem and to foster environmental values. The program, developed for eight instructional hours, has four themes. It was applied to students from three different middle and high schools located in Incheon area in a tidal flat of southern Gang-Hwa island, and the effectiveness of the program was analyzed by quantitative and qualitative analysis. The program enlightened the students. They realized how important tidal flats were and moreover how valuable the environment was, which led to the change of their awareness and attitude toward environment in a positive way. In addition, students hoped to have more ecology field study experiences and teachers also expected to provide more students with the opportunity.
