CF는 CFTR 유전자의 돌연변이에 의해 발생하는 열성 유전질환으로, 호흡기분비물을 제거하는 능력의 저하로 기관지확장증이 발생하고, 이와 동반된 여러 원인균에 의해 만성적인 폐감염증이 발생한다. 최근 서양에서는 CF 환자에서NTM 폐질환의 발생이 증가하고 있다. CF는 국내에서는 매우 드문 유전질환으로, 저자들은 한국인 CF 환자에서 발생한 Mycobacterium abscessus 폐질환을 성공적으로 치료한 경험을 보고하는 바이다.
