A Restatement of the Absence of SecondaryLong Vowels in Jurchen LanguageAISINGIORO UlhicunThis paper attempts to restate the absence of secondary long vowels in Jurchen language from three points. (1) Jurchen scripts accepted　four spelling rules of Khitai scripts in order to spell Jurchen vocaburaries, there was no any other formula to accurately represent pronunciations of Khitai and Jurchen vocabularies, thus represented Jurchen vocabularies had no secondary long vowels. (2) Jurchen ideographic characters continuously　mutated　with the times to add alphabetical characters. All of the added alphabetical characters did not represent　prolongation of vowels,　but pronunciations of ending of the original ideographic characters. (3) For accurate restoration of　pronunciation of Jurchen vocabularies, it needs comprehensive study of all the materials concerned Jurchen scripts. On the basis of the overall study of Jurchen inscriptions, it is concluded that there is no possibility of presence of secondary long vowels in all of Jurchen scripts.
