A member of the Eight Immortals, Zhang Guo(張果) is to be recognized by his distinctive emblem — On upside down(‘倒騎’), ‘donkey(驢)’ and ‘Chinese traditional musical instrument(魚鼓簡子)’. The first painting record about Zhang Guo looks in <張果見明皇圖)> painted by Ren ren-fa(任仁發, 1254-1327), in Yuan Dynasty. We can know that he was a real taoist internal alchemist in the taoist history. Among the Eight Immortals, that is, the Immortal Zhang Guo is the only one who was the elderly. The Immortal Zhang Guo(張果) is representative of senior citizens in China. He was very ridiculous, circumspect of the elderly. An exciting research on the following will be accomplished. What is the symbol of Zhang Guo’s on upside down(‘倒騎’), donkey(驢)’s Taoist Internal Alchemy(內丹) meanings? Of Chinese Taoist Immortals, the Immortal Zhang Guo who carry the rhetoric of older man, how is he different with the Seven Lucky Gods(七福神) of Japan, that is, the Iconography of the Popular God of Happiness(福), Emolument(祿) and Longevity(壽) and elderly man(寿老人) it is what are they wanted to talk about something? In particular, ‘Rap instrument(魚鼓簡子)’, a symbol of Zhang Guo(張果), is transformed into a ‘Book(書冊)’ from the Joseon Peninsula’s Scholar culture tradition, and has a cultural meaning differentiated from <the Immortal Zhang Guo paintings> in China by painting ‘Bat(蝠) and Sheep(羊)’ that symbolize ‘大福’ and ‘吉祥’. Thus, it can be seen that the Taoist internal alchemist Zhang Guo(張果) has expanded its meaning and function from historical existential figures to paintings of religious worship objects, again as an auspicious pattern.
