The main purpose of this study is to understand and enhance the living conditions with a new design system of living in Phnom Penh city in order to develop more inclusive and sustainable engagement moving forward. This design system is partially out of special materials which we can find, create, easily transportable using and assemble on site everywhere around the globe by the use of a small crew with equipment as a cell that keep growing, according to several aspects such as overall cost, disassembly, energy efficiency/ energy productivity, prefabrication, ability to withstand natural disaster, eco-friendly, building/ dismantling requirements, aesthetics, upkeep, the percentage of using local and creative materials and provide the benefits to the house owner in the future. First, Analysis of public housing’s critical issues/ development in Phnom Penh city to examine the key areas in the context of urbanization and the implication of housing, to understand the classification of housing typology with defining affordable housing and low & middle-income class in Cambodia. Second, Analysis of a new prefabricated-affordable design system of low and middle-income class by comparison and analysis on the method of public housing between Cambodia and Korea according to lifestyle, policy& code, materials, space, price determinants, and housing perspective views, to examine the solutions and opportunities of future housing and to figure out the new design system housing development, materials, technical programs, affordable housing strategies to apply to the living condition issues in Phnom Penh city. Third, Discovering a new prefabricated-affordable housing design system by this results and finding of the analysis, and demonstrate this results to design system as a prototype in the concept of challenging to find the best example of the solution for the future housing problems.
