The research content of this article is length shot animation language. It consists of four chapters. The first chapter, the introduction, introduce the research background, significance of the length-shot film. Most length-shot works appear in films and show up in animations just as experimental short animations, where the lens technique is innovative and bold.
Chapter 2 investigates and analyses some length-shot films of foreign and domestic, including Cannon Fodder, Au bout du monde, and Outside of the elevator. Based on the analysis of the surreal masterpiece of anime, the methods of shot expression employed in length-shot film and television works, such as the compression of time and space by the montage technique inside the shot, clips outside the shot, and the use of shade and transition techniques, have a deep instructing meaning to “Life”, the animation design.
The focus of chapter 3 is the reason why the length-shot mode is used in the composition and on the shot technique used in the animation “Life”. The composition of “Life” refers to the composing method employed in Cannon Fodder, Au bout du monde and Outside of the elevator as well as refers to the space formation methods such as enclosed space and open space employed in some films.
The last chapter presents some detail aspects of the animation “Life” and the research conclusions, including scenario, character set, and scene-setting, etc. The whole animation employs the expression technique of length-shot without shifting shot, compress time by panning shot and using the montage technique of shot, and outlines one person’s whole life in ten minutes, which holds the nature of animation tightly. As a novel investigation to the languages of animation shot, this work improves the expression technique of the view and outline of the story and breaks through the narrative of traditional animations, which matches the contemporary thoughts and the new style of length-shot animations from the point of view of beauty appreciation.
