The coming of super-aged society needs to increase the elderly welfare services. This study focuses on analyzing regional equity of the aged welfare facilities by using Coulter’s Index of Inequity(CII), Location Quotient(LQ), and Nam-Oh-Hong Index(NOHI).
The major findings are summarized as follows. First, the inequity of the elderly residential welfare facilities is the worst, and the supply of long-term care facilities is distributed equally when we use CII to determine the relative sufficiency of elderly welfare facilities. According to region, the level of inequity varies that it is generally good in Sejong and Ulsan, and is low degree of equity in Seoul and Gyeonggi. Second, LQ of senior welfare facilities in Seoul is overall low it indicates that the supply of the elderly facilities is below acceptable standards. Third, NOHI of Metropolitan City is higher than provincial government in senior welfare center, visitation care facility and long-term facility.
This study is expected to provide valuable insight for local government to consider optimal provision of service facilities depending on regional elderly welfare demand.
