This paper considered changes in the subject theme that appeared in the process of reorganization from Liaozhaizhiyi(聊齋志異) to Xingmengpianyan(醒夢駢言). Xingmengpianyan(醒夢駢言) has a different aspect from Liaozhaizhiyi(聊齋志異) in thematic thoughts in combination with the characteristics and influences of spoken style and the periodic style and flow. Among them, the ‘weakening of moral concept’ phenomenon clearly appears. If you look at the details, it can be divided into ‘weakening of gratitude’, ‘weakening of fidelity’, ‘weakening of forgiveness’, and ‘weakening of friendship’. The author of Xingmengpianyan(醒夢駢言) selects 12 works that are not related to fantastic contents such as ghosts or psychedelic spirits from 490 pieces of Liaozhaizhiyi(聊齋志異) and expresses the ‘traditional moral concept’ represented in these pieces into ‘realistic social conception’ and again melts this thought within the ideological scope that can be fully understood and accepted by readers at the time. In this process, as the general traditional moral concept is weakened and faded, it is divided and transferred into various social ideas. Of course, this tendency is a phenomenon that is generated to some extent in the process of re-creating a novel from ‘literary’ to ‘spoken’, but it far exceeds the degree of change that can be expected in general case. This point not only shows the trend of changing moral concept of society at the time, but also clearly shows what kinds of ideas the readers at that time wanted and how the novel is recreated based on these ideas. It can be seen that the internal meaning of the work and various external factors are directly and indirectly involved in the change of the ‘moral idea’, where such characteristics can be understood by organically linking the relationship between the author, the work, and the reader. In addition, it can be said that it is an important material to examine various aspects and meanings of the subject change of the work.
