This study investigated the effects of parent-adolescent communication on school adaptation by female middle school students with self-efficacy as a moderator. The main results are as follows. First, a parent-adolescent open communication style was positively correlated with school adaptation, whereas a closed communication style was negatively correlated with it. A parent-adolescent closed communication style was negatively correlated with self-efficacy while a father-adolescent open communication style was positively correlated with it. Second, father-adolescent open communication positively influenced school adaptation by the adolescent. Third, results here demonstrate that self-efficacy functions as a moderator between the father-adolescent open communication style and their school adaptation. It was also suggested that various forms of psychoeducations and counselings to improve father-adolescent open communications for school adaptation are in strong demand. Limitation of the study and future tasks are also discussed.
