This study aims to examine the associations of job burnout and supervision on the turnover intention of early-career social workers with less than 5 years of work experience. The sample consisted of 213 social workers that were employed in social welfare institutions in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon. The results of the analysis showed that when general characteristics were controlled for, emotional exhaustion (a sub-factor of job burnout) and supportive supervision (a sub-factor of supervision) have a significant association on turnover intention. This result shows that early-career social workers exhibit a higher turnover intention when there are greater emotional exhaustion and a lower level of supportive supervision. Therefore, to prevent the turnover of early-career social workers, it is necessary to provide a differentiated intervention program that can reduce emotional exhaustion and increase supportive supervision.
