The purpose of this study is to apply Problem-Based Learning(PBL) in learning foreign culture focusing on the cultural background of the film Forrest Gump. First, it discusses the effectiveness of movies as an educational tool to study culture and the importance of culture teaching for improving English communication-skills to be qualified for globalized citizens. Secondly, this study is to show how PBL can be designed in the culture teaching courses. Finally, this paper investigates the result of 20 student surveys to measure the learners’ reaction of the model class. The result of the study suggests that the students are satisfied with the movie-based culture class and recognize PBL as a unique student-centered learning method. Through the PBL experience, students could have a positive effect on carrying out self-directed learning and cooperative learning, and improving communication skills to find a solution in a group. In conclusion it can be considered a meaningful study that Problem-Based Learning(PBL) in cultural learning through movies showed the possibility of improving various core competencies along with academic achievement.
