The reason why the Epos tradition, which ended in most of the world"s cultures, has shown exceptionally strong survival in the Eurasian Turks, is directly or indirectly related to the Tengri beliefs that lie within the Turks. In particular, “Shaman”, a priest of the Tengri faith, has expressed the subject of Tengri thought through music form. Everything that shamans express through music, including rituals and healing, was a stylized story of serious life. Epos was born from the musical narrative of such a story, and Epos was passed down by the shamans until the Middle Ages and thereafter from the storytellers to the storytellers until modern times.
The viability of the Turkic epos is also closely related to the Turkic view of time. The ancient Turkic conventional time means an eternal cycle with no beginning and no end. The Turkic storytellers such as “Zhyrau” have been working to replace this time of eternal circulation with the time of art through epos. As a result, the conventional time was reproduced in various and complex rhythms in the Turkic Epos, and was continuously carried from memory to memory by the storytellers, and the Turk epos was able to acquire a permanent viability.
