This study aims, based on the analysis of the layers and levels of the “有點+太+A” structure in modern Chinese, to analyze the quantitative types and grades of the structure and, furthermore, to examine the types of its quantitative integration.
The main findings of this study are as follows:
First, “有點” is, in terms of quantity, a marker for a subjective decreased quantity for “太+A,” and, in terms of subjectivity, is a marker for a kind of intersubjectivity.
Second, “有點” and “太” are divided into two different quantitative grades: “有點” represents a subjective small quantity (微量) and “太” represents a subjective high quantity (高量). The “有點+太+A” structure represents a subjective quantity in terms of quantitative types and is classified as a subjective high quantity in terms of quantitative grades.
Third, the semantic types of the adjective A in the “有點+太+A” structure most often have negative meanings, followed by both neutral meanings and positive meanings with a similar weight.
Fourth, when the emotional color inherent in the adjective has a negative or neutral meaning, the “有點+太+A” structure represents a passive quantity. When the emotional color inherent in the adjective has a positive meaning, the “有點+太+A” structure represents a passive quantity more frequently than an active quantity.
