Atopic dermatitis (AD) is one of chronic recurring inflammatory skin diseases. AD is related with a complicated immunological mechanism by stimulation of various T cell subsets, particularly Th2 cells. Thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) expressed by epithelial cells acts as a critical factor in the development of AD by promoting Th2 immune responses. Therefore, TSLP might be a promising therapeutic strategy for AD treatment. Celastrol, a pentacyclic triterpenoid isolated from Trypterygium Wilfordii Hook, showed a potent TSLP inhibition effect by suppression of the transcription factor, NF-kB activation in mouse keratinocyte cell lines.
