This thesis will examine the general characteristics of philosophical thoughts of Santayana appearing in the area of naturalistic position and platonism. Especially, it will examine the issues over the ideological discussing method of Santayana many scholars are debating. The reason why it tries to examine these issues is to re-evaluate the ideological achievements of Santayana. His philosophical research is nonexistent in spite of tremendous his influences on philosophical circles. In addition, He is not highly evaluated from overseas specialized philosophers. And further more, not many people are following the philosophical structure. Thus, the reason why it tries to examine these issues is to specifically contemplate those reasons. The important things for the understanding of Santayana philosophy are to examine how Santayana is dealing with the psychology of people, ethical value and psychological value from the point of materialistic philosophy. Thus, this thesis will deal with the fact that the perfect existence that guarantees consistent happiness is not innately given but given in reward of rational training. The philosophical theme of Santayana is related with our lives. It is aiming at the happiness of our lives. For that reason his philosophy is highly evaluated these days.
