Seed production techniques for Anguilla japonica, which is one of the most commercial species in Korea, have sustainedly been developed according to strong demands from the eel aquaculture industry. Although the artificial seed production is practicable, the mass production techniques for industrialization have not been established yet. Among the many tasks to accomplish that, improvement of low quality gamates, including egg and sperm, is a prerequisite problem. Furthermore, suitable assessment factors for judgement of gamates quality are strongly needed that serve selection of fine broodstock to produce the healthy offspring. In this study, several assessment factors for the eel sperm activity were investigated using computer assistant sperm analysis (CASA) system, and the artificial seminal plasma was improved by recomposition of minerals. The samples were first divided into four activity groups, including A (0-10%), B (10-40%), C (40-70%), and D (70-100%), based on the motility and progressive values.
