Microplastics (MPs) are emerging contaminant to the environment and our food chains. In this study, we present a multi-technique based analytical method through the combination of microscope-FTIR (μ-FTIR) with Pyrolysis-GC/MS (Py-GC/MS) to overcome the difficulties with handling smaller particles, and obtain the 3D information on plastic types, particle size, particle numbers and quantity by mass consecutively. Optimized sample extraction and separation method with high recovery of MPs was developed for polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), poly vinyl chloride (PVC), polyamide (PA) and poly (methyl methacrylate) in table salts.
