This article reviews researches on the history of Early Joseon period (15th-16th centuries prior to the Imjin War) published in 2019-2020 by Korean historians in Korean language. These researches are categorized in five fields: political history, diplomatic history, socio-economic history, history of thought, culture and science, and biographical and textual history. This article attempts to discern trends and achievements in each field.
In the last two years, roughly 400 researches were published regarding Early Joseon Period, while there were 589 researches published in 2017-2018. There might be several reasons for this decrease, but the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic seems to be one of its most important factors.
Rather than introducing every research, this article provides detailed introduction to those which deserve special attentions. It analyzes particularly 140 researches carried out in the field of Koran history. It can be concluded that these researches were not limited to some specific themes, but show enormous diversity.
