This study starts is based on the hypothesis that Korean myths cannot be interpreted with theories developed in the West. To study myths is to discover the archetypal structure of the human mind. This study compared Greek myths to Korean myths and identified the differences. In the West, drawing upon Greek mythology, The-Name-of-the-Father is the signifier of the dead original father and of the illusion of possessing everything. The object of this desire is the mother, and since the son is a being who wants to usurp his mother from his father, it leads to murdering his own father. The myth of the murder of father from Uranus to Zeus is not revealed in the father-son relationship from Hwanin to Dangun, from Heaven to Jumong. In Greek mythology, the son is an external being to the father that has nothing to do with himself. In contrast, in Korean mythology, the son is the heir to his lineage to the father. This is also found in the fact that the father-son relationship in Korean mythology represents the relationship between communication and aid. The signifier of women is also different from that of the West. The woman in Korean myth, who can be represented by Ungnyeo and Yuhwa, is a helper to her son, far from being a sexual object as in the West. In contrast to Greek mythology, this study is meaningful in considering that Korean myths can glimpse the Name-of-the-Father in terms of harmony and succession.
