This study aimed for examining the relationship between mother's emotional expression and child's self-regulation ability and school life adaptation, and finding out the mediating effect of child's self-regulation ability. The subjects were 445(184 male, 230 female) students in the 5th and 6th grade of two elementary schools in G Metropolitan City. The data were analyzed using SPSSWIN 23.0 program and SPSS Process macro program. In addition, bootstrapping was conducted to verify the significance of the mediation effect. The results were as follows: First, mother's positive emotional expression was positively correlated to child's self-regulation ability, teacher relationship, peer relationship, academic achievement and school rules while mother's negative emotional expression was negatively correlated to child's self-regulation ability, teacher relationship, peer relationship, academic achievement and school rules. Second, child’s self-regulation ability had partial mediating effects between mother’s positive emotional expression and teacher relationship and between mother’s positive emotional expression and peer relationship. However child’s self-regulation ability had full mediating effects between mother’s positive emotional expression and academic achievement and between mother’s positive emotional expression and school rules. Third, child’s self-regulation ability had full mediating effects between mother’s negative emotional expression and four factors of school life adaptation.
