Nam, Sin-hye (2021), “Selection of Educational Words for Foreign Graduate Students Majoring in Humanities: Using Machine Learning Algorithms,” Language and Information Society 43. The study aims to select educational vocabulary in the field of humanities for foreign graduate students majoring in humanities in graduate schools in Korea. Foreign graduate students studying in Korea have been steadily increasing in number, and they need to be taught vocabulary necessary to engage in academic activities in their specialized fields. To achieve this goal, a corpus of academic papers in literature, history, and philosophy, a subdisciplinary study that constitutes humanities, was established. Then, words were selected by utilizing the range of vocabulary in the corpus and the TextRank algorithm, one of the machine learning algorithms. Among these selected words, those of low proficiency were excluded. As a result, the finalized vocabulary is presented along with the division of words appearing in multiple fields of study and those appearing in single fields. The results can be used conveniently in actual classroom settings.
