Exploring the Influence of Teacher Cooperation, Teacher Morale and Enthusiasm, and Teacher Training Hours on Learner-centered Instruction by Mediating Teacher Efficacy - Focused on Middle School English Teachers -

This study explored the factors of teacher's professional development (cooperation, teacher training time), teacher morale and enthusiasm, and teacher efficacy, which were expected to affect learner-centered instruction. Of the Gyeonggi-do Longitudinal Study of Education(GEPS) data, a panel of 340 English teachers working at 197 middle schools was used. A structural equation model was constructed for this data analysis, which was analyzed by amos 22.0. The results were as follows. First, teacher efficacy positively affected learner-centered instruction. Second, teacher morale and enthusiasm showed a significant effect on both learner-centered instruction and teacher efficacy. Third, teacher cooperation positively supported only learner-centered instruction, not teacher efficacy. Fourth, teacher training hours did not have an affect on learner-centered instruction and teacher efficacy. The findings of this study suggest a need to find a way to increase teacher morale and enthusiasm and encourage teacher cooperation. Furthermore, English teacher training courses should be improved to be more effective with subject specificity. The limitation of this study was that only English teachers in the third grade of middle school were the subjects of the study, and the gender or age of the teacher was not considered as a control variable. Finally, if student variables are added, the research will be more in-depth.
