Cisplatin is a commonly used chemotherapy drug but has a critical nephrotoxic side effect that connected to severe acute kidney injury (AKI). Pre-treatment of hypoxia using PHD inhibitor induce activation of hypoxia-inducible transcription factor (HIF) and also has a protective effect from AKI, suggesting the possibility of using PHD inhibitor as a HIF stabilizer.) Therefore, to further use PHD inhibitors as a method of protecting against toxicity of cisplatin, it is essential to study the correlation between the degree of HIF pre-activation and reduction of nephrotoxicity by cisplatin.
