Objectives ： The event-related potentials (ERP) have been used to capture neural activities related to both sensory and cognitive processes in substance use disorder. The purpose of this study is to summarize the different waveforms of 4 ERPs (P300, MMN, ERN, and FRN) and their significance in Internet Addiction (IA). Methods ： Through searching and reviewing of previous literature on the different waveforms of 4 ERPs this study presents the significant findings of 4ERPs in IA. Results ： P300 was used to investigate response inhibition in IA as it shows less efficiency in information processing and has lower impulse control than normal. ERP studies that have utilized Mismatch Negativity (MMN) have proved the attentional bias of IA on network information. Feedback-related negativity (FRN) amplitude is known to reflect a negative reward prediction error. IA presented an overall decrease in sensitivity in feedback as indexed by blunted FRN. The error-related negativity (ERN) was applied to the current response monitoring functional deficit characteristics of IA as it reflects an individual's ability to monitor behavior. Conclusion : This study presents the advantages of ERPs as indices of behavioral change in IA. ERPs are uniquely positioned to expand our understanding of the underlying neural mechanisms of IA.
