Recently, the size of the Chinese web novel industry has been rising vertically due to the increase in Internet and mobile use. For example, as of 2016, the Chinese web novel market was 12 billion yuan, up 25 percent from a year earlier. The purpose of this research is to analyze the current status of Chinese web novels and find their characteristics and ways to develop them. List the characteristics of Chinese web novels as follows. First, Chinese web novels secure variety of contents. Second, the contents of web novels are based on commerciality, so they can promote high public popularity. Third, Web novels continue to attract diverse types of readers by creating a smooth interaction system between authors and readers. On the other hand, Chinese readers prefer web novels because they can satisfy various psychological satisfaction, including the need for entertainment through web novels as well as proxy satisfaction. Here's how to develop a Chinese web novel. First, through the author development policy, we should seek to develop high-quality web novel contents. Second, media-releasing education should establish proper reading habits for readers. Third, the web novel contents review system should be strengthened to prepare a policy to enhance the quality of web novel contents. Fourth, we need to find concrete ways to expand the web novel industry through diversification of the digital industry.
