The utilization of language as data for dance music is high. The purpose of this study is to provide creative ideas for the dance musicians by reviewing the examples of music utilizing language. Following conclusions could be gained from the research on poems, sijos, intonations and Soggeto Cavato technique by reflecting the content characteristics and morphologic characteristics of language. First, many composers have developed songs, symphonic poems, ballads and impressionistic music based on poems. In addition, poems have influenced absolutely to establish musical pedagogic principles based on music, poems and movements. Second, as the Western literature formed the basic rhythm, our traditional sijo also connotes specific meters and rhythms. Sijo can be good materials to express exotic emotions with its oriental characteristics. Third, it is found that historically many composers have developed compositional techniques and trends utilizing intonation. Those can be arranged as ‘musica reservata’, ‘words-painting’, ‘recitativos’, ‘extreme chromaticism’, ‘expressionism’, ‘atonalism’, ‘pointillism’, ‘serialism’ and etc. Fourth, it is discovered that Soggeto Cavato as a unique technique that combines solfege with sylables extracted from each vowel of words or sentences. It can provide possibility as a new style of dance music. Based on this research, various experimental and go-ahead attempts will continue in dance music and it can develop to integral contents that can be directly utilized for dancers' works by considering the distinct characteristic of music utilizing language.
