The purpose of this study is to define the role of dance education and suggests its application according to the implementation of free semester system. Dance education can be comprehended as an area that vitalizes human development more joyfully, enjoyably, and lively. Dance improves expressive competency by actively using activity of five sensory organs, and promotes understanding of a variety of perspectives. Also, the dance curriculum helps physical, emotional, and psychological harmony and unity. From this perspective, dance education can be operated for students to enjoy fitting into the school and to recognize the course they can participate actively in their own development. The tasks and role of dance education in free semester system are as follows. First, undertaking role is the career connected curriculum of dance education. Denmark operates a one-year course of after school program. The curriculum is being operated autonomously by each school and is strengthening career competencies through emotional education as it is mainly comprised of art education than direct job related career experience. As an area that can improve self-expression and communication capability through physical activity, dance education makes introspection and development of latent ability possible around direct experiential activity. There is a task of developing programs with these objectives. Secondly, for learner-centered education and self-directed learning activity, every activity of free semester system will be operated according to hope and preferences of students. Creating opportunities for students to encounter dance often is an important issue here. Preparing measures to vitalize after-school activity, creative experiential activity, or club activity is needed as including dance in a basic curriculum of elementary education is a time-consuming process. To this ends, there are tasks to make dance readily accessible to the component school and local community, inform the effectiveness through active research and presentation activity, and to develop a suitable program. Thirdly, a research on the teaching method of dance should be conducted to diversity the teaching method. Also, it would necessary to help for teachers to understand the class operating principles in depth by instructing not only the dance subject but the whole curriculum in dance teacher education program
