Recent academic studies place more importance on space interpretations in understanding people’s attitudes and emotional values, thus, there has been an increasing number of research methodologies developed to measure, structurize, and quantify the space interpretations. This study is conducted to quantify the measurement methodologies of emotional space storytelling and academically systemize this communication structure under the assumption that space storytelling is a communication structure of meanings in conveying one’s emotion for further improvement. In order to achieve this, this study analyzes ‘Asan Oeam Village,” a traditional residential construction from the Chosun Dynasty that depicts the spacial images of emotion. This study uses the following methods: First, this study explores the concepts and components of space storytelling through existing research and scholarly articles. Second, the study discovers methods to identify space in the lens of emotional storytelling methods in traditional residential areas through empirical research. Third, this study analyzes the depictions of the storytellings in traditional spaces by evaluating emotion-related vocabularies. The results using these methodologies show that emotional storytelling is a method for people to express about their experience and emotion regarding the space, thus, it is an important research method for analyzing the relationship between the internal attitudes and emotions of people using and experiencing the space. Therefore, this study strives to improve this method as a communication structure of meanings in conveying one’s emotion by academically systemize and quantify emotional space storytellings.
