This Study was done by recognizing the conflicts between Daegu Arakwon amd PCK General Assembly. Unfortunately there is only interest in assets of the Arakwon in the fierce debate over the position of Daegu Arakwon for the past 20 years. Therer is no interest in the essential meaning and spirit of Daegu Arakwon, which is how, why, for what and by whom it was formed. We must recognize that it is our mission to work hard to make the end right because we know that this conflict can not but end. This study suggests that the way to solve conflicts without being ashamed of mission history is to consider the essential meaning and spirit of Daegu Arakwon, which is how, why, for what and by whom it was formed.
Daegu-Gyeongbuk Medical Mission, which was started by Johnson in 1898, began medical treatment for leprosy patients along with general patient care from the beginning of mission. For medical missionaries who wanted to treat all the sick people regardless of status, especially for medical missionaries in south areas of Korea, where leprosy patients were distributed, inerest in leprosy patients was nature. Therefore, the establishment of Na Hospital(Arakwon) in Daegu was also naturally made. Many medical missionaries, including the first president, Dr. Johnson and the second president Dr. Fletcher, who led the developmemt of Arakwon, can see that the ministry of Arakwon was accompanies by the work of Daegu Jejungwon.
In order to understand the essential meaning and spirit of Daegu Arakwon, the history of medical missions in Daegu-Gyeongbuk area was explored and how missionaries worked in Arakwon was examined.
