The study aims to analyze torso types and characteristics in school-aged girls’ height section of 140cm to 149.9cm to examine the validity of the method of marking the size of children’s wear suggested by the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards. In addition, it presents preliminary data for the size system of a children’s wear company. The method of the study was to statistically analyze the body size and calculation items related to torso type of 159 school-aged girls with heights of 140cm to 149.9cm among the 6th Korean Body Size Data. According to the results, seven factors were extracted, and the total explanatory variate of all the factors was found to be 83.94%. Three types were drawn according to the conducting cluster analysis, with it as an independent variable. Type 1 is thin but is characterized by the most severe curvy form in the back. Sixty-one girls (38.4%) are distributed in Type 2, and this type is the biggest and thickest. The overall torso silhouette is circular, and the sectional form is also characterized by roundness. Lastly, 56 girls (35.2%) fall into Type 3, and the frontal silhouette is similar to that of Type 1, while the rear silhouette is similar to that of Type 3. The section of the circumference item is similar to that of Type 3 for its roundness. In conclusion, according to the results of analyzing torso types, the types and average values of the items indicate a significant difference in the height section of 140cm to 149.9cm. The above result implies that various body types are distributed within school-age girls’ height section of 10cm. Concerning the size system of clothes, it will be needed to consider the changes of circumference values to height. The study results will stimulate a systematic method of marking and be used as essential information for children’s wear companies’ sizing systems and the use of marking methods.
