This study is to provide basic information about the changes in the torso measurements and shapes of elementary school girls in accordance with their growth stage. This is delivered by verifying changes in their torso measurements based on relevant measurements of 3D scan data from the 6th Korean Human Body Measurement Investigation. This study will identify physical characteristics of the school girls, and this can be applied towards developing clothing patterns that are suitable and more comfortable for each development stage. The study used relevant measurements from 3D upper body scan data of 619 school girls aged between 7 and 13, and the data was grouped by age, 7~9, 10~11 and 12~13. They were respectively named early-, mid-, and late-school age. The data analysis consists of 7 categories, including; height (11), width (9), depth (8), circumference (8), length (15), others (4) and calculations (9), and statistically analyzed through SPSS WIN 22.0. to identify the variations between the school ages. The analysis of the changes in the torso measurements of the girls from each school age indicates that there are meaningful differences in all the measurements of the items. Factor analysis identified 4 factors with eigenvalues greater than 1.00 and explained 86.34% of the total variance; Factor 1, measurements across torso; Factor 2, measurements determine vertical length and volume of torso; Factor 3, shoulder angles; Factor 4, measurements determine width and depth ratio of bust and waist. There are 4 torso shapes according to the cluster analysis; Shape 1 (35.5%), a medium build with average torso measurements; Shape 2 (12.9%), a large upper body and overweight; Shape 3 (28.1%), a straight body and short height; and Shape 4 (23.4%), a tall and curvy body. Girls in the mid-school age are often included in Shape 1 and 2, girls in early-school age often fall under Shape 3, and girls in the late-school age are most frequently appeared in Shape 4. As the findings of the study showed the different rates of growth in the torso measurements and shapes between the school ages, they can be applied for developing clothing patterns that are more comfortable and provide a better fit.
