The present study examined the prospective effects of self-esteem in children, adults, and elderly on depression and in children on aggressive behavior in the interval of the three years. And also it examined the stability of self-esteem in children, adults, and elderly. It analyzed the data of Korean Welfare Panel Survey(759 children and 8933 adults). The data was analyzed through the structural equation modeling of the longitudinal relationships between self-esteem and depression as well as self-esteem and agression. The results of this study were as follows. First, self-esteem significantly didn’t predicted depression in the three years later after controlling the effects of covariates of both of self-esteem and depression. But depression of children significantly predicted self-esteem in the three years later after controlling the effects of covariates of both of self-esteem and depression. Second, self-esteem significantly didn’t predicted aggression in the three years later after controlling the effects of covariates of both of self-esteem and aggression. Aggression of children significantly predicted self-esteem in the three years later after controlling the effects of covariates of both of self-esteem and aggression. Third, the interval of stability of self-esteem in children, adults, and elderly was .33 ~ .59. Lastly, the implications for counseling and future studies was discussed on the basis of the results of the present study and previous studies.
