This study explored what kind of experiences the clients have during the counseling process of medical student, what factors affect the counseling process, and what happens as result in turn. For this, unstructured in-depth interviews were conducted with 9 clients who visited the counseling center at a medical school for the specified period, and the data were analyzed with Colaizzi's phenomenological method. Through the analysis process, a total of 46 concepts, 13 themes, 9 theme groups, and 5 categories were created. Positive individual characteristics of medical students that affected the counseling process included putting a lot of effort, having ability to discern and objectify, having good understanding of counseling and having strong motive and will to change, trusting the counseling session and the counselor, and having prior knowledge of counseling and anticipation. Negative characteristics were such as having high ideals for oneself and expecting perfection, being arrogant, not conforming to the counseling, and hiding the fact of receiving counseling to others. The most common topics in the counseling with the medical students were depression issues, study and regular course, and family-related problems. They were recognized as chronic and difficult. This study identified effective strategies and factors for counseling medical students, environmental factors that limits counseling medical students, the result of medical student counseling, and the limitations.
