It is necessary to know and understand the lives and circumstances of Zainichi Koreans, who have lived a life of hardship and adversity in other countries over a century of history. In this paper, the life of Zanichi Jeju people was grasped through a cultural and historical analysis of the representation of Zainichi Koreans in the story of Ikaino of Wonsooil. The formation of Zainichi Korean society is based on the historical background of the Japanese colonial era’s exploitative policy toward Korea. Zainichi Jeju people of the same background flocked to Ikaino to avoid economic or conscription and conscription and to escape the Jeju 4·3 Incident. Zanichi Jeju people in Japan have been communicating through Jeju’s unique ritual life, such as ancestral rites, rituals, and other ceremonial weddings, centering on the Joseon market in Ikaino, and have lived to protect Jeju’s culture and identity.
Zanichi Jeju women, who inherited the temperament of the great and powerful Jeju creator Seolmundae Halmang, pioneered "small Jeju" in Japan in their lives around Ikaino. On behalf of her incompetent husband, she embodied the representation of Zanichi Jeju women who were in charge of making a living, embracing their children, sometimes burying in their hearts the sadness of losing their children, and embracing the pain of others.
