As the Korean society is rapidly becoming an aging society, the importance of Aging-in-Place(AIP) is being emphasized in the academia of senior welfare. There have been many previous studies on AIP among senior citizens, but verifications of factors that actually maintain AIP among senior citizens are lacking. This study focused on formal and informal social cares, and aimed to examine how such variables actually sustain AIP of senior citizens. For this purpose, the 1st-16th annual data by Korea Welfare Panel Study were combined and utilized, and the factors that affect the duration of continual residence were verified by using the survival analysis method. As a result, it was revealed that the length of residence of senior citizens increases when they are older, are female, have a spouse, have lower levels of depression, live in poor local community environments, and have experiences of receiving housing welfare services. Chronic disease in particular showed lower risk ratios as time passed by. As for formal care, the possibility of continual residence increased when material support and daily life support were not provided, and as for informal care, the possibility of continual residence increased when emotional support was provided. Our findings reveal that there is a need to re-establish the role of formal care for AIP. Also, it is suggested that emotional support should be actively utilized as a part of formal care programs to enhance AIP and pursue comprehensive community care policies.
