본 연구의 목적은 수업에서 교사리더십을 발휘하는 교사들의 리더십 발휘 모습과 학생의 반응을 살펴보고, 교육현장에서의 교사리더십 발휘 모습의 특징과 의미를 탐구하는데 목적이 있다. 이에 교사리더십이 있다고 추천받은 중학교 교사 8인을 대상으로 질적연구방법을 실행하였다. 연구결과, 수업의 도입, 전개, 마무리 과정에서 리더십 모습과 학생의 반응을 살펴볼 수 있었다. 그리고 수업에서 교사리더십 발휘는‘수업전문성의 확대, 교사와 학생의 관계에서 교사 역할 인식, 교사와 학생 간의 상호작용’을 의미하였다. 아울러, 중학교 교사에게 드러나는 교사리더십 모습도 발견하였다. 본 연구결과는 교사리더십에 대한 이해와, 기존에 논의되었던 수업전문성 개념을 확대하여 교사리더십의 필요성을 조명하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
