This study aimed to explore the concept, implications, and connotations of the word ‘competency’ appearing in journal articles in the field of education for adults in Korea. To achieve the purpose of the research, keyword network analysis was employed, and the background of the word and its implicit characteristics underlying the concept of ‘competency’ were analyzed. A total of 332 relevant articles from 13 Korean journals in the field whose titles include 'competency' were selected for analysis. The results are as follows: First, the amount of research about competency has increased since 2002, and the study divided this increasing trend into four five-year stages. Also, the study found that the Korean word '역량 (yeong-yrang)' was translated into various expressions such as 'competency,’ 'competencies,’ and 'competence' in the English titles of those articles. Second, the keyword network analysis found that words such as ‘development,’ ‘level,’ ‘company,’ ‘education,’ ‘need,’ ‘ability,’ ‘competency model,’ and ‘core competency’ were used as keywords with high frequency in the articles. The study carried out an analysis by dividing the period into the appearance, growth, maturation, and stabilization stages. This study’s findings are expected to serve as a basis for future research.
본 연구는 성인대상 교육분야 국내 학술지에 게재된 논문에 등장하는 역량의 개념을 키워드 네트워크 분석을 활용하여 탐색하는 것에 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 역량 개념의 등장 배경과 개념의 기저에 내포된 특성을 살펴보고, 국내 성인대상 교육분야 등재학술지 13개에 게재된 학술논문 중 제목에 ‘역량’을 포함한 논문 332편을 대상으로 분석이 이루어졌다. 분석결과 첫째, 역량연구는 2002년 역량 연구논문이 등장한 이래로 증가 추세를 보였으며, 5년 단위 4개의 시기로 구분되었다. 또한 영문명을 살펴본 결과 '역량'은 ‘Competency’, ‘Competencies’, ‘Competence’ 등 다양한 표현으로 번역되었다. 둘째, 키워드 네트워크 분석 결과 ‘개발’, ‘수준’, ‘기업’, ‘교육’, ‘필요’ 등이 상위 순위 빈도를 보였으며, ‘능력’, ‘역량 모델’, ‘핵심역량’ 등의 단어가 중심단어로 등장하였다. 구체적으로 4개의 시기별로 연결중심성, 매개중심성, 최대코어수, 등장논문수를 기준으로 핵심 단어를 도출하였으며, 패스파인더네트워크를 적용하여 단어의 군집을 시각화 하고, 핵심 단어의 에고네트워크를 확인하였다. 마지막으로 연구의 결과 및 의의를 바탕으로 시사점을 제시하였다.
