is study aims to address recent Thai political change using three perspectives such as rationality, structure and culture. Three perspectives have merits to explain various aspects of Thai political change respectively. Through the rational perspective, the leadership characteristics of King Phumipon and Prime Minister Thaksin and the strategic games between the conservative group and the progressive group in Thailand are examined. Through the structural perspective, the changes of Thai constitutions and the socioeconomic structure of Thailand are analyzed with respect to influence the rational choices of political agencies. Through the cultural perspective, the Buddhist tradition and the respect to the kingship of Thai people are emphasized to explain the continuity of Thai political culture.
The analytical framework to explain Thai political change through the perspectives of rationality, structure and culture could be effectively used to look into Thai political reality in a systemic way. This comprehensive analysis also could be applied to compare Thai politics with other country cases. Because the academic objective is to provide causal relationship through simplification of the real world, this study on rational, structural, cultural perspective would contribute to explanation of factors, process and characteristics of Thai political change.
