The purpose of this study is to investigate the educational meanings of teacher book clubs in the relation to teachers’ professional development. Especially, we focus on what kind of professional identities of teachers are developed through teacher book clubs and what features of teacher book clubs affect those developments. In order to achieve this purpose, we perform narrative inquiry into a teacher’s experiences in a teacher book club. The results show that teacher book clubs contribute for a teachers to develop her professional identities as a reflective practitioner and a connective specialist. The results also show that education/al philosophical texts which teachers study together and collaborative reflection among teachers in a teacher book club are essential to those professional identity development. Based on these findings, we discuss the importance of teacher book clubs to teachers’ professional development and teaching practices.
