This study focuses on the cases related to the violence of Ivan IV and Yeonsangun, and examines their emotional, temperamental characteristics. Ivan IV exhibited a violent temper from his childhood and showed cruelty in conflicts between unstable political forces. His sense of loss, having lost his parents at an early age, appeared in the form of a paranoid delusion of distrust and suspicion of those around him. on the other hand, Yeonsangun, who grew up unaware of his mother's death, had a relatively peaceful childhood, but did not form an attachment relationship with his parents. He expressed his anger by substituting the political legacy of his father Seongjong and the death of his mother as the primary cause of disdain for himself and loneliness. The two monarchs, who had different natural temperaments and environments, shared in common that they were excessively obsessed with the events involving wife and mother. Ivan IV exhibited an antisocial personality, an escape reaction from society, and occasionally hypomania. Yeonsangun showed hypomania through excessive hunting, luxury, and lustful behavior, which overlapped with paranoid symptoms. Although there are subtle differences in the psychotic symptoms of the two monarchs, they had much in common in their hypomanic and paranoid tendencies, and both suffered from hallucinations in their later years.
