This study analyzed children’s perceptions of animal issues occurring in various spaces using the Q methodology. As a result, there were four types. The Human-centered Boundary-building (Type 1) distinguishes the domain of humans and animals, and values the gains and losses that animals have on humans in understanding animal issues. The Ecological-based Coexistence-oriented (Type 2) recognizes animals as equal actors living with humans, and understand that animal issues arise in the ecological network between humans and animals. The Self-centered Differential Treatment (type 3) are sensitive to specific animal issues because they understand animal issues based on their affection and preference for some animals. The Compassion-based Life-respecting (Type 4) wants to protect animals and actively engage in improving animal issues based on strong compassion. These results suggest that we pay attention to the existential meaning of animals in children’s lives and deal with some animal issues in their lives. It also does helping children participate in improving animal issues and think relationally about life and animal issues.
