This study aims to analyze the current status of abandoned buildings in Gangwon Province in terms of geographical location, which is one of the urgent issues to be solved in Gangwon Province, which has a high proportion of tourism industry. As of 2021, there were 44 long-term abandoned buildings in Gangwon Province, the highest in the country. By city and county, Wonju-si had the largest number of places with six, while Chuncheon-si, Pyeongchang-gun, and Goseong-gun had the second largest number with five, respectively. The overall safety management situation at the sites of abandoned buildings was low, and there were many buildings built on steep slopes, increasing the risk of long-term neglect. When looking at the location environment and surrounding landscape of abandoned buildings, most of them were adjacent to major roads, and the surrounding land use had a high proportion of forest areas. In addition, in urban areas, there were many people living in the area around abandoned buildings, so there was a possibility of secondary damage. The public land value of the land (excluding buildings) was higher in urban areas but lower in rural areas. Through this study, we were able to identify a more specific status of abandoned buildings in Gangwon Province, and confirmed the need to prepare a plan to solve this problem with the establishment of the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province.
