Report Errors
This Papers explore empirical and regulatory changes over the recent years, by giving details in i) the amendment to the Food Sanitation Act in 2018 and ii) the legislation of the Food Labeling Act of 2015 and subsequent amendments thereto. In Japan, the Food Sanitation Act was revised in 2018 and promulgated on June 13 of the same year. 2018 Amendment to the Food Sanitation Act include; Assessing the backdrop, Strengthening preventive measures against multi-regional foodborne outbreaks, Institutionalizing the HACCP-based food safety control systems, Collection of information of health hazards caused by foods or food products containing potentially harmful substance, Food container and food processing equipment in compliance with international codes, Tightening the business permit system and introducing the business register system, Introducing the product recall reporting system, Ensuring the safety of imported foods.
Before the adaptation of the Food Labeling Act, food labeling rules were governed by three key legislations. In the 2015 revised bill, the following were amended; Paragraph Introducing the compulsory nutrition facts labeling, Establishing labeling requirements for the foods with functional claims and Revising the food allergen labeling rules below explain newly added compulsory labeling requirements and important changes in labeling rules; Adding the liquid infant formula products into “foods for special dietary use”, Introducing the country of origin labeling, Revising the genetically modified food labelin, Alternating the food additive labeling rule, Reporting of the food product recall in violation of the Food Labeling Act, so I would like to introduce the details of such amendments.
